The 心理学文学士 in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the 道成肉身的大学 prepares students for advanced training and future careers as psychologists and other behavioral scientists.

B.A. in 心理学 is a 120-hour degree program that is consistent with current national standards and includes a service-learning component. 心理学 majors use scientific methods of inquiry to address 研究 questions, 促进社会公正. Through the completion of this program and participation in additional opportunities afforded to 心理学 students at 校本, graduates will have a variety of options for careers or postgraduate pursuits. The current curriculum requires a set of core courses in 心理学 and selection of one of two emphases, General (which requires a minor) or Addiction Prevention and Community 心理学. The major is designed to allow the addition of a second major (e.g.生物学、政治学等.) or courses that further prepare the student for a specific career goal.

Instruction focuses on scientific methods of inquiry to test theory and promote evidence-based application and practice with a consideration of social justice. 学生 pursuing the 心理学 major develop competence in their primary area of interest through advanced courses in the major, 可以完成实习, 和/或进行研究.

The concentration in General 心理学 offers a broad range of study within the discipline. In addition to the required core courses, students in this concentration select a course in Development 心理学, which includes such classes as Child Adolescent 心理学, 生命的发展, 以及成人发展与衰老. They must also select a course in Social Influence, which includes topics such as Social 心理学, Experiential Cross-Cultural and Multicultural 心理学. 学生 take two 4000-level courses and three electives in PSYC to complete the concentration.

The concentration in Addiction Prevention and Community 心理学 offers deep study into the biopsychosocial influences on addiction and both environmental interventions and treatment. Class options include courses in systemic influences on drug use, 预防和其他干预措施, 在康复项目实习, and a course in human development and course in Advanced Statistics or Psychometrics (measuring behavior and mental processes).

心理学研究

心理学 students have opportunities to take part in Research Continuation courses. These one-hour courses introduce students to 研究 that faculty members are conducting and invite them to take part in lab experiences or join lab teams. 学生 gain valuable hands-on 研究 under the mentorship of their faculty. 心理学 majors conducting 研究 can obtain department funding to present their 研究 at academic conferences.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment for psychology jobs is expected to grow faster than average over the next decade. 参加实习的学生, 研究 or practice-oriented work add important experience to their undergraduate studies, 帮助拓宽机会.
